What is a ‘shack-in-a-box’?
Shack in a Box is the name given to a radio that can operate on HF bands and also VHF, UHF frequencies. You’ll find that most radios are either HF or VHF/UHF and only a small selection are both. Rather than running two radios for each set of bands, a Shack in a Box radio can do everything.
What do I need to get started?
The basics to get started with a home setup are:
Power Supply – Providing 13.8v with at least 25amps
Transceiver – HF, UHF/VHF or a Shack-in-a-box
Coax – With suitable connectors, either PL or N type
Antenna – Vertical, Dipole
Antenna Support – Unless you have tall tree’s in your garden then some form of telescopic fishing pole will be useful to support your wire antenna.
